The Department of Printing & Stationery, Lakshadweep, serves as the central printing hub for the Union Territory. Initially established in Calicut in 1964, the department was later relocated to Kavaratti in 1983. By 2019, all unit presses across the islands (except Bitra) were consolidated with the Headquarter Press in Kavaratti, streamlining operations under one roof.
Our department is dedicated to fulfilling the comprehensive printing and binding needs of the Lakshadweep Administration, including central government, semi-government establishments, and other associated bodies. We handle a wide range of printing works such as ballot papers, voters’ lists, notebooks, copy books, Lakshadweep gazettes, ship and helicopter tickets, and newspapers like the Lakshadweep Times. Additionally, we produce various types of registers, ID cards (for police, IRBn, Home Guard, officials, and pensioners), flex, banners, and posters—producing over 5 lakh different types of documents annually. The Department of Printing & Stationery also manages the issuance of official, pensioner’s and Contractual Employees ID cards under Lakshadweep Administration employees.
Equipped with modern printing infrastructure—including web offset machines, digital duplicators, large format printers, and programmable cutting and sewing machines—we ensure timely and high-quality output. We also support private printing jobs on an advance payment basis. Although the department functions as a service department, it issues bills only for private works and not for official works.
