Shri Dineshwar Sharma , a Kerala Cadre IPS Officer, Joined the Indian Police Service in 1979. He has served in a number of challenging assignments and carries a rich and caries experience in the field of policing and counter terrorism.
After his induction into the Indian Police Service, Shri Dineshwar Sharma was initially posted as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Palghat, Kerala. Later, he served as Assistant Superintendent of Police in Cannanore and District Superintendent of Police in Wayanad and Kasargod. He also served as Commandant of Malabar Special Police Battalion and Assistant Inspector General of Police at Police HQ, Trivandrum.
Shri Dineshwar Sharma joined int Intelligence Bureau as Assistant Director in January 1991. During his service, he has handled a number of sensitive assignments including counter-militancy/ counter insurgency operations in Jammu & Kashmir and North-Eastern States in India. He took over as the 25th Director of Intelligence Bureau on December 31, 2014.
On May 30, 2017, Shri Dineshwar Sharma was appointed as GoIR for Peace Talks with various groups in North Eastern States, Subsequently, on October 25, 2017, he was appointed as Govt of India’s Representative for dialogue with the elected representatives, various organisations and concerned individuals in the State of Jammu & Kashmir, equivalent to the post of Cabinet Secretary.
Shri Dineshwar Sharma was awarded the prestigious Indian Police Medal for the meritorious service in 1997 followed by the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2003.
Shri Dineshwar Sharma graduated from Magadh University, Bodh Gaya, Bihar. He and his wife Manju Sharma have a son and daughter.
