The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Kavaratti, Lakshadweep under the Department of Education was established in the year 1990, as part of the Government of India’s national policy to strengthen the quality of elementary education through decentralized teacher education institutions. The establishment was in accordance with the recommendations of the National Policy on Education (1986) and Program of Action (1992). DIET, Kavaratti, functions under the administrative control of the Department of Education, Union Territory of Lakshadweep. It caters to the needs of in-service and pre-service training for elementary school teachers of Lakshadweep and acts as a nodal institution for academic support and innovation in the district’s education system.
